In a massive pre-release milestone for the Indian film industry, superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming action-thriller Jailer 2 has reportedly locked in a non-theatrical digital rights agreement worth INR 160 crore. The landmark deal establishes a new benchmark for Tamil cinema, highlighting the intense trade demand for the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster.

‘Jailer 2’ OTT Deal Makes History

According to industry reports, a major streaming platform secured the digital streaming rights for Jailer 2 in an all-time record deal for a Kollywood project. At INR 160 crore, the non-theatrical acquisition surpasses previous digital rights benchmarks in Tamil cinema, including Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo.  The lucrative agreement reflects a growing appetite among streaming services for high-profile South Indian franchises.

Details regarding the deal were reported by Bollywood Hungama, which highlighted that Jailer 2 has registered the highest non-theatrical deal of 2026 so far, outstripping several major upcoming pan-Indian titles.  Sources quoted by the trade outlet stated that the streaming partner placed a massive premium on the project due to Rajinikanth’s sustained box-office draw and the global popularity of the original Jailer.

The makers announced that the first single from Jailer 2, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, is set to release on August 21.  The announcement was accompanied by a fresh promotional poster showcasing Rajinikanth returning in his iconic role.

Anirudh’s soundtrack played a vital role in the commercial success and pop-culture impact of the 2023 original, making the upcoming track one of the most anticipated releases of the current musical calendar.
