Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer 2 continues its strong box-office run despite a slowdown in daily collections after the Dussehra holiday period.
The Rajinikanth-starrer made the most of the Navratri and Dussehra holidays, crossing Rs 500 crore worldwide in its first week before moving past the Rs 600 crore mark.
On Friday, its ninth day in theatres, the film entered the list of the 20 highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
Jailer 2 had a massive opening weekend, crossing Rs 400 crore worldwide within its first four days.
The film maintained strong momentum through the festive period before witnessing noticeable drops on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Friday, as it entered its second week, Jailer 2 collected Rs 14.50 crore net in India. This took its nine-day domestic total to Rs 348.85 crore net and Rs 408.55 crore gross.
The film has also performed exceptionally well in overseas markets. After nine days, Jailer 2 had collected around $23 million internationally, taking its worldwide gross to approximately Rs 628 crore.
With this, the film entered the top 20 list of highest-grossing Indian films, moving ahead of Salman Khan’s Sultan. The 2016 wrestling drama had collected around Rs 623 crore worldwide.
Jailer 2 has also surpassed the lifetime worldwide collections of Salaar, which earned around Rs 617 crore, and Saiyaara, which finished with about Rs 578 crore.
The Rajinikanth film has also emerged as the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. It has moved past the worldwide collections of the first Jailer, which earned around Rs 604 crore, and Vijay’s Leo, which collected about Rs 605 crore.
The next major target for Jailer 2 is Shankar’s 2.0, which remains the highest-grossing Tamil film with a worldwide collection of around Rs 691 crore.
Produced by Sun Pictures and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is now closing in on another major box-office milestone as it continues its theatrical run.
