Luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which is owned by Tata Group, is facing major trouble after a cybersecurity attack disrupted its global operations.
The brand has now announced that production will stay paused until September 24, stretching the shutdown to almost three weeks.
In a statement, JLR told its employees, suppliers, and partners about the extended halt. “Today, we have informed our colleagues, suppliers, and partners that we have prolonged our current pause in production until Wednesday, September 24,” the company said.
JLR mentioned that it is still investigating the cyber breach and is carefully planning how to restart its operations in stages. The timing of this attack makes things worse for Jaguar Land Rover. The company has already been struggling with falling profits due to rising costs, including US tariffs. Now, with factories inactive, the cyberattack has added more pressure.
Adding more to it, JLR had already signed a £800 million, five-year deal with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in 2023 to strengthen its IT and cybersecurity. Despite those steps, the brand has still fallen victim to this attack, which shows how serious cyber threats can be even for global giants.
The production pause could impact supply chains and sales targets, especially in important markets. For now, JLR’s top priority is to restore its systems safely and bring operations back to normal as soon as possible.
This incident is a reminder that in today’s digital world, cybersecurity is as important as horsepower for auto companies. After all, even luxury cars can’t be built if the systems behind them are hacked or locked down.
