Veteran actress Meenakshi Seshadri has fondly recalled her experience of working on the 1983 blockbuster ‘Hero’, revealing that her on-screen chemistry with Jackie Shroff developed from the very first day of shooting and played a major role in the film’s enduring success. Appearing on the dance reality show ‘India’s Best Dancer’, Meenakshi shared several memorable anecdotes from the making of the iconic film after contestants Vaidehi and Prateek performed to one of Hero’s popular songs. The performance left the actress emotional as she reflected on the unforgettable journey of the movie. Speaking about the film’s widespread popularity, Meenakshi revealed that Hero received tremendous love even in regions where Hindi films were not traditionally popular. Recalling a special memory from Chennai, she said, “There was a theatre named Padma Theatre where Hero ran continuously for nearly a year. It was a remarkable achievement, especially at a time when Hindi films did not receive much attention in Chennai. My relatives living there felt extremely proud that someone from their family had achieved such success.” The actress credited legendary filmmaker Subhash Ghai for presenting the characters and their relationship in a way that deeply connected with audiences. “Subhash Ghai played a crucial role in shaping our characters and presenting our pairing so beautifully that Jackie and I became one of the most loved on-screen couples,” she said. Meenakshi also recalled the early days of filming, revealing that the movie’s first schedule began on a forest set immediately after the film’s muhurat ceremony. “From the very first day of shooting, Jackie Shroff and I became good friends. Our natural chemistry reflected on screen, and even today audiences continue to remember and appreciate our pairing in Hero,” she added. Released in 1983, Hero became one of the biggest hits of its time and played a significant role in establishing both Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Seshadri as leading stars of Hindi cinema.
