Jaaved Jaaferi’s Wife Duped Of Rs 16.24 Crore In Bandra Redevelopment Project; BMC Officer Suspended: Report

Jaaved Jaaferi’s wife Habiba Jaffrey has reportedly been duped of Rs 16.24 crore by an officer from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in connection with a Bandra redevelopment project.

She filed an FIR against the  ‘s K North Ward’s Assistant Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Patil and five others at Khar Police Station for allegedly defrauding her in an investment scam. A report suggests that the suspension order has been issued against the BMC officer on June 5 and was served on him on Sunday (June 7). The cops have also arrested businessman Nishit Patel in the case. He was produced before the court, after which he was taken to police custody until May 19.

According to the complaint filed by  ‘s wife, Habiba, Mahesh Patil and his associates lured her into investing in a redevelopment project in Bandra, Mumbai, by promising high returns and substantial profits. She also claimed that the accused allegedly prepared forged and fake documents as a part of the fraud. As per the NDTV report, the BMC officer Patil has reportedly gone absconding ever since the actor’s wife filed an FIR against him.

The cops are trying to trace his whereabouts. The police have registered a cheating case against Patil and five other accused. Due to the seriousness of the allegations and the large amount involved, the Khar Police Station has transferred the case to the Mumbai Crime Branch.

The teams of the crime branch are currently conducting raids at multiple locations to track down the suspended BMC official and others involved in the case.

How Did Mahesh Patil Dupe Habiba Jaffrey?

According to India Today report, Mahesh Patil had earlier been sent on a compulsory leave for a month in November 2025 over the allegations of ‘improper investment’ linked to the same redevelopment project. At that time, he had denied the allegations. But now, Habiba Jaffrey has revealed all the details.

In her complaint, she alleged that she first met Patil at the BMC office, where he purportedly introduced her to the project with hope of getting good returns after investment. According to her, Patil advised the actor’s wife to route the investment through businessman Nishit Patel.

Patil created forged government registration documents and showed them as genuine to Habiba, Jaaved and their relatives, including Naved Jaffrey and others, to invest in the project. The accused collected Rs 16.24 crore from the investors through cheques, cash, foreign currency and luxury watches.
