Jaanmoni Das Arrested: Celebrity makeup artist and former Bigg Boss contestant Jaanmoni Das was arrested by the Kozhikode City Cyber Police on Thursday, August 20, in connection with a case over alleged derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The action followed a complaint filed by the BJP Mahila Morcha.
According to reports, the arrest came in connection with comments she allegedly made in the context of protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The remarks were alleged to be derogatory towards the Prime Minister and his mother.
The case was originally registered by the Kozhikode Cyber Police following a complaint from Mahila Morcha state president Navya Haridas. The FIR alleged that Jaanmoni had made defamatory and insulting statements against the Prime Minister through social media, with the alleged intention of creating unrest and disturbing public peace.
Jaanmoni Das’ Apology
Jaanmoni had earlier addressed the controversy publicly. In a video posted on Instagram, she expressed regret over the remarks and said she had not intended to hurt anyone. She also maintained that her comments concerning the Prime Minister’s mother were not intended as a personal reference.
In her clarification, Jaanmoni said she had been responding to a question after watching content related to the protests. She suggested that her inability to communicate clearly in Malayalam may have contributed to the way her comments were understood. She further acknowledged that she should have checked the facts before making the statement.
The apology did not bring an end to the legal proceedings. Mahila Morcha maintained that an apology after the alleged remarks was not sufficient and continued to seek legal action. The complaint led to the registration of a police case against the makeup artist.
Jaanmoni, who has worked as a makeup artist and gained wider public recognition after appearing on Bigg Boss Malayalam, had faced criticism on social media following the circulation of the video.
Reports indicate that the sections invoked in the case are bailable, and Jaanmoni is expected to be released on station bail after the necessary procedures are completed.
