‘Jaag gayi didi’: BJP MP Kangana says Jai Ram Thakur told her not to visit flood-hit Mandi; netizens ask did he stop from tweeting too

BJP MP from Mandi and Bollywood actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has expressed deep sorrow over the widespread devastation caused by torrential rains and flash floods in her home state of Himachal Pradesh.

Taking to social media platform X on Friday, Ranaut said she attempted to visit flood-affected areas in Mandi, including Seraj, but was advised by senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur to delay her visit due to poor connectivity and safety concerns.

“It is heartbreaking to see massive flood devastation in Himachal almost every year now. I tried reaching flood-affected areas in Seraj and other parts of Mandi but was advised by respected leader of opposition Shri @jairamthakurbjp ji to wait until access is restored. A red alert has been issued today by Mandi DC as well. Awaiting official clearance; I will be there as soon as possible,” Ranaut wrote.

Kangana’s post has gathered mixed reactions.

Heavy rainfall over the past many days have triggered multiple cloudbursts across the state, damaging several homes and washing away vehicles.

A local resident, whose home was destroyed, said, “Everything got washed away after the cloudburst. We are now staying with relatives.”

According to the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority and Revenue Department, at least 43 people have died, and property worth over Rs 400 crore has been damaged. However, officials say the real figure could be significantly higher.

The worst-hit region remains the Thunag subdivision of Mandi district, where several roads remain blocked and essential services have been disrupted. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for Himachal Pradesh, in effect until July 7, warning of continued heavy rainfall.
