One is pulling each other’s hair, while another is kicking their opponent. From the kind of words they utter at times, it would not seem that they were studying together in the same class a while ago.
Rather, it might be wrong to think that they have been enemies with each other for a long time. The incident took place in Daukimari of Jhar Alta 1 Gram Panchayat in Dhupguri Block, North Bengal.
It is learned that this fight is the tragic outcome of a quarrel between the ninth grade students of a local school over sitting on the school bench. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon of last week. That day, like any other day, the students came to school and sat on the classroom benches. Then the commotion started. According to local sources, the commotion broke out over the bench space. The one who came first that day occupied the place he wanted. Again, when the one who sat in that place the previous day came the next day and went to sit, the student who was already sitting tried to block him. Then, when the class started, it stopped temporarily, but inside, one kept shouting at the other. But no one informed the school authorities to resolve the matter.
The explosion happened outside. About ten students who were in conflict then went out of the school and got involved in a small and then a heated argument on the public road. The argument escalated into a fight. Then, one started attacking the other in the middle of the road. Along with punching, slapping and kicking, one started pulling the other’s hair. Some of them fell down on the road due to the pull. Of course, there was a lot of language used. One student lying on the asphalt road told the other student to admit her mistake. The girl who was lying down was again trying to get up by pulling her hair and push the rival girl. Seeing this scene, the residents of the area stopped.
Some of them came forward to settle the dispute and calm down. But no one agreed to let go of the rival without a fight. As a result, the residents’ good advice did not reach their ears. A crowd gathered around to watch the ‘fun’. The lower class girls were completely surprised by this behavior of the upper class girls. It is known that after this ‘fight’ went on for quite some time, the girls finally stopped because they got tired. Some took pictures of the incident on their mobile phones.
When the matter came to light, the school authorities became uncomfortable and inquired. Even though the incident was outside the school, the students involved in the incident were students of their school. Initially, some of the school officials kept saying that the students in dispute were not from their school. But after an uproar over the matter, they admitted that they were students of their school. Headmaster Ramakrishna Roy said that there was a dispute over seating and a fight outside. If it had been inside the school, the school authorities could have taken responsibility. But that didn’t happen. The principal said that the parents of the accused students were summoned on Monday and eight students were temporarily suspended.
