ITR Filing 2025: Can the deadline for filing returns increase? This is the reason

If you are going to file income tax return (ITR), then this news is important for you. This year, the deadline to file ITR for FY 2024-25 is September 15, 2025. But it is becoming difficult to complete the work by this date. Both taxpayers and chartered accountants are worried about this. According to a news control report, the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and many tax experts have appealed to the government to increase the deadline. He says that there are many types of problems right now, due to which it is not easy to file returns on time.

Demand to increase deadline for ITR filing rapid

The biggest problem is that ITR forms and utilities are released very late. Also, technical faults on the tax portal such as problems in login, system error and timeout are also happening daily. These problems are impressing the work of filing returns.

There is also a delay in disturbances and updates in essential documents like Form 26AS, AIS and TIS, which is making it difficult to gather correct information. The work has become longer with the implementation of new financial detail formats. Also, due to festivals running from August to November, work pressure on both tax professional and taxpayers increases.

Challenges facing tax professionals

Chartered Accountants and Tax Consultants are also upset. They say that there are technical problems while uploading returns on the portal repeatedly. Many times the data is not updated or error comes, which makes it difficult to file returns on time. These things are hindering the work of tax professionals.

Will deadline increase again?

In May this year, the government had increased the deadline of ITR filing from 31 July to 15 September. At that time it was also said that due to changes in rules and forms, taxpayers had less time to complete the work. Now Gujarat Chamber of Commerce has recommended to extend the deadline by 30 October. The pressure in front of the government is increasing on this demand. Although officially remains the last date on 15 September, but there is a possibility of increasing deadline in view of technical problems and practical problems.

What should taxpayers do?

As far as possible, taxpayers should complete their ITR filing work from now on. As soon as possible, get the returns submit so that there is no problem in the last moment. Also, if there is any problem on the portal, then immediately tell it to the concerned department so that it can be corrected as soon as possible.
