HBO Max dropped a surprise episode of IT: Welcome To Derry on October 31, 2026, as a Halloween treat for viewers. Last year, during the first season of the horror prequel series, the streaming service released the second episode two days before its airdate for Halloween. This time, they have premiered some bonus content in a new title called A Story of Derry, which supplies viewers with the much-needed backstory of ‘it’, the entity that has been terrorising the area and the town for several decades now. The HBO show is based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel It.
How to watch A Story of Derry in India
For viewers wanting to watch the bonus content relating to , the new nearly 30-minute video won’t be found in the first season of the show. Instead, viewers will have to search for A Story of Derry on HBO Max. Indian viewers can watch the new surprise video on JioHotstar. The bonus episode is directed by Tazbah Chavez and written by Cherie Dimaline and Jasmyne Flournoy.
Fans of the series will recognise the origins of the new episode as it was first introduced in It: Welcome to Derry Episode 4. Avatar: The Last Airbender star Kiawentiio plays Necani, who, along with her two friends from the fictional Shokopiwah tribe, comes across It during a trip into the Western Woods by themselves. Their encounter with the entity leads to the formation of the 13 sacred pillars that surround the town of Derry and keep It forever caged in. Zahn McClarnon plays the stranger that the teenage trio meets in the woods. Sadly, Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise is missing from this special episode of the HBO Max series.

The series takes place in the same universe as executive producer It film franchise. The first season was set 27 years before the events of the first film. This August, HBO announced that Welcome to Derry had been renewed for Season 2. Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane confirmed that Season 2 would begin filming in summer 2027.

The second instalment will adapt the 1935-set Derry Interlude chapter from King’s novel. It revolves around the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.
