New rules of BCCI Sponsorship
BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) started new bidding for the rights of the title sponsorship of the Indian cricket team on 2 September 2025. But this time the rules have been made quite strict. Due to the new laws of the government, no real money gaming, betting, gambling or cryptocurrency will now be able to participate in this process.
It is worth noting that companies like Dream11 and My11Circle had given a fund of about Rs 1,000 crore to BCCI in the last few years. But now due to new laws, these companies are completely out of Indian cricket. Dream11 itself has decided to eliminate its contract of Team India’s title sponsor ahead of time.
Dream 11 left the path
Dream11 won the title sponsorship of Team India for Rs 358 crore in 2023, which was till 2026. But now due to the new law, the company has closed its real money gaming business in India and that is why it has to leave the sponsorship. BCCI will not pay any fine on this decision of Dream 11.
Many rules for new sponsors, some brands straight out
BCCI has made it clear in its new rules that companies which are involved in activities like online money gaming, betting, gambling or crypto in India or abroad cannot be included in this sponsorship race. Apart from this, companies considered morally objectionables like alcohol, tobacco, pornography have also been excluded from this process.
No place of surrogate branding
BCCI has made it clear that no company can try to bid by hiding in a surrogate branding. If a company works in many business categories and one of them is banned, then it will also be considered out of the race for sponsorship.
Financial terms also strict for bidders
Whatever company wants to bid for this title sponsorship, its average annual turnover or net worth should be at least Rs 300 crore in the last three years. The last date to purchase the Intersted Party (IEOI) document for the bidding process is September 12, while the last date for submission of bids has been fixed on 16 September.
