The Municipal Corporation has decided that a direct discount of 40 percent will be given on such old buildings. This was being demanded in Sangam city for a long time, which has now got the green signal. Municipal Corporation’s ‘smart’ plan

Often people have to visit files and offices to get government exemption, but this time the Municipal Corporation has kept the matter very simple. You do not need to go to any zonal officer to get the discount nor will you have to submit any new documents. You will be given this relief only on the basis of old documents available with the Municipal Corporation. Municipal corporation teams will start collecting data between April 15 and 20. That means you will get the gift of tax exemption right from your home.

Tax bill will be deducted only after survey

Before giving the discount, a special team of the Municipal Corporation will come to do a ‘spot inspection’ of your house. The team will see how old the house actually is and what is its current condition. After the survey, the team will submit its report and then accordingly a new and lower bill for your house tax will be prepared. This entire process may take about 3 to 4 months.

Who will get full benefit and who will not?

There is an important rule regarding tax exemption which is very important to understand. According to Chief Assessing Officer Sanjay Mamgai, if your house is 20 years old, then you will get a rebate of 40% on that entire portion. Suppose you built the lower floor 20 years ago and built another floor above it 10 years ago, then you will get exemption only on the lower (old) floor. Tax on the new floor will be the same as before.
