PM Modi Vande Mataram Statement: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at a program organized on the occasion of 150 years of Vande Mataram on Friday, said that removing some important lines of this song in 1937 was not just a change, but at the same time the seeds of partition of the country were sown. According to PM Modi, at that time the lines of Vande Mataram which described Mother Durga and Shakti were separated. This decision was not just a cultural change, but the result of divisive thinking. He said that this thinking remains a challenge before the country even today.
Vande Mataram is not just a song, it is the voice of freedom- PM Modi
PM Modi said that Vande Mataram gave courage to crores of Indians in the freedom struggle. This song was not just sung at that time, it was the breath of struggle, the heartbeat of patriotism. He said, ‘When freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar lived abroad and met each other, their greeting was Vande Mataram. Many revolutionaries were saying the same thing while being hanged. The PM called it an ‘immortal song’.
India’s thinking is to consider the country as a mother – PM
The Prime Minister said that in India the country is not considered just as land, but as a mother. This is the reason why power, motherhood and patriotism are linked together in India. He said, ‘When a child is in trouble, a mother not only gives affection, she also becomes a strength if needed. Our nation is also like this. Here women power has always played a role in the building of the country.
Why is the decision of 1937 in discussion?
This statement of PM Modi has come at a time when just a few hours ago, BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan had alleged that in 1937, Congress had deliberately removed those parts of Vande Mataram in which Mother Durga is praised. Kesavan had claimed that all this happened with the consent of Jawaharlal Nehru and the aim was to please certain groups. Congress hit back and said that those giving lessons on Vande Mataram should first answer why RSS does not sing national songs and anthem in its shakhas.
