Silambarasan’s upcoming film ‘STR49’ has sparked speculation about a possible connection to Vetrimaaran’s ‘Vada Chennai 2’. However, the acclaimed filmmaker has now set the record straight, confirming that ‘STR49’ is not the .
In a video shared by the producers Grass Root Film Company, Vetrimaaran clarified that Dhanush holds the copyright to ‘Vada Chennai’ and its sequel. He emphasised that ‘STR49’ is a separate project, although it is set in the same universe.
The filmmaker said, “STR49 is set in the world of Vada Chennai, but it’s not Vada Chennai 2. Since Dhanush owns the copyright, I told him I was making a film with Silambarasan in the Vada Chennai world. Dhanush didn’t ask for a single rupee and willingly agreed to give an NOC. But unfortunately, there have been many negative speculations about us.”
In the same video, Vetrimaaran spoke about his strong bond with Dhanush, recalling how the actor supported him during a financial setback.
“I didn’t appreciate the way these rumours were circulating. Dhanush would never interfere in my creative process. When I was in financial trouble recently, it was Dhanush who arranged the funds, as an advance from a producer,” he revealed.
The filmmaker and .Sources close to the team told India Today that director Nelson Dilipkumar will appear in a cameo. Actors Kavin and Manikandan are also expected to feature in guest roles. An official announcement is awaited.
