In one of his viral satsang videos, Premanand Maharaj gave a very clear and inspiring message on this topic. Explaining the correct meaning and way of making wishes to the devotees, he said that our relationship with God should not be one of fear or greed, but of love and trust. According to Premanand Maharaj, it is not wrong to make a wish to God, but it is wrong to make it look like a deal. Because a wish is not a deal, it is a ‘thank you’.

Premanand Maharaj said that people often say, “O Lord, if this work of mine is done then I will offer you 11 laddus” or “I will offer one bell in the temple.” According to Premanand Maharaj, this is a kind of commercial thinking, where we “covet” something from God for our own ends. This feeling creates obstacles in the path of devotion. He made it clear that if you want to offer food to God, then do it willingly and happily after the work is completed. This offering should be your true love and gratitude for God, not the “price” of fulfilling some wish.

Basis of devotion- love and trust
Our relationship with God should be like that of a parent and child, where there is selfless love and unwavering trust. If we consider God only to fulfill our desires, it reduces the depth of our devotion. He explained the right way to pray in difficult times. He said, when any difficulty or difficulty arises, the devotee should humbly say, “Lord, I am stuck in this; please get me out.” This prayer should be like that of a child who knows that his parents will protect him from every difficulty. There should be no condition that he will believe only if you save him.
