Hemoglobin is a protein found in our blood that is present in red blood cells (RBCs). Its main task is to deliver oxygen to every part of the body and remove carbon dioxide. Due to sufficient amount of hemoglobin, the body gets energy, the brain and muscles work properly and the immune system remains strong. Hemoglobin levels in healthy adult men are 13-17 g/dl and 12-15 g/dl in women are considered normal. It is needed in children and pregnant women. That is why doctors recommend to get blood tests done from time to time so that the deficiency can be recognized and corrected at the initial level.

Dr. Ajay Kumar at Delhi MCD It is said that the deficiency of hemoglobin is called anemia and it affects the body in many ways. First of all, you feel fatigue and weakness because the supply of oxygen decreases. Not reaching enough oxygen to the brain causes difficulty in dizziness, headache and focus. In critical condition, there may also be problems like breathing shortage, heartbeat rapid and chest pen. If there is a long reduction for a long time, the risk of heart disease increases.

Dr. Ajay says that this problem is seen more in women because anemia is common during periods and pregnancy. Lower hemoglobin in children may affect their growth and learning ability. This can cause weakness and low immunity power in the elderly. Therefore, this is not just normal fatigue but a serious health problem, which is very important to pay attention to time.

What is the right way to increase hemoglobin?

Dr. Subhash Giri, Unit Head in Medicine Department at RML Hospital It is said that the quantity of hemoglobin should be between 14 to 17 grams per decomeliter (G/DL) for men and 12 to 15 grams per decomeliter (G/DL) for women. This is a normal range. But if its level is between 13 and 10, then it can be increased with the help of diet and supplements. Iron -rich diets such as green leafy vegetables, pomegranate, dates, jaggery, beans, pulses, fish and meats are helpful in this. Also, vitamin C -containing fruits like oranges, amla and lemon make the oren’s absorption easier.

Light deficiency benefits only from diet and oral supplements, but people who have very low hemoglobin are very low i.e., less than 9 grams per decomeliter or pregnant women have severe anemia or whose intestine is not able to absorb nutrients properly, only the diet is not enough. In such cases, doctors recommend iron injections, iv iron therapy or sometimes blood transfusion.

This means that every person’s condition is different. To increase hemoglobin, only the diet is enough or will require injection, it can be decided only by looking at the doctor’s examination and blood test report.
