Frequent loose motions: Repeated diarrhea is often caused by minor infections, but when this problem persists or returns frequently, it can also be a sign of a serious illness. It can not only be a warning of food poisoning or water disturbances, but also a warning of any chronic disease, hormonal imbalance, or severe infections in the digestive system. In such a situation, it is not right to take it lightly – it is very important to get a test done while while.
Dr. Anoop Saraya, former of the Gastroenterology Department of AIIMS Delhi, told that – If diarrhea is occurring during the monsoon season, it becomes a common problem. But it is not right to ignore it always as the effect of weather. Dirty water and contaminated food can easily spread infection during the rains, which can cause frequent loose motion problems. However, if this problem persists even after the rain is over or occur frequently in the same season, then it can also be a sign of an internal disease like irritable Bowell syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bovel disease (IBD) or weakness of the digestive system. Therefore, along with taking care of cleanliness in the monsoon, it is also necessary to take repeated diarrhea seriously.
Infection most common cause
In most cases frequent diarrhea causes bacterial, viral or paracetic infection. This is usually caused by consumption of contaminated food or water. Loose motion can run for a few days in conditions like food poisoning, gastroenteritis or amibiosis. But if this problem persists for more than a week, then it would be wrong to accept only infection.
Frequent diarrhea and digestive diseases
If diarrhea persists for a long time, it can be a sign of chronic diseases like irritable bowell syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory Bowell Disease (IBD). Diseases such as Crohn Disease and ulcerative colitis damage the intestinal surface, affecting the process of bowel movement. Along with this, symptoms like stomach pain, weakness and weight loss can also occur.
When can it be a symptom of a major disease
If there is bleeding with diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss rapidly or is constantly feeling tired, then it can be a sign of problems related to colon cancer, tumor or pancreas. In such a situation, it is necessary to get a doctor checked immediately.
Effect of medicines and lifestyle
Some medicines, such as antibiotics or cancer treatment medications, can spoil intestinal balance and cause prolonged diarrhea. Apart from this, stress, wrong eating, fast food and excessive intake of processed food also affect the digestive system.
When to contact the doctor
If you are getting loose motion many times a week and this sequence has been going on for several weeks, then do not ignore it. If other symptoms are also visible with this, then contact the doctor. Stool test, blood test or colonoscopy may be required for investigation.
