BCCI’s rule is that if a player wants to play for a team from another state, he has to prove residency for at least one year. For this, players have to provide documents like employment certificate, educational certificate or Aadhar card and in Puducherry these documents are being fraudulent. Many big coaches of Puducherry and their academies are making backdated admission certificates, fake Aadhaar addresses and job records of players for Rs 1.2 lakh.

According to the report, Aadhaar cards of 17 players from 8 states are registered at the same address in Motilal Nagar, Puducherry. Of these, 6 players have played in the senior team of Puducherry and 7 players have also played in the Pondicherry Premier League. Not only adults but also minor cricketers are involved in this game. The highest run scorer in 2024-25 Vijay Merchant Trophy is also in Puducherry through fake documents.
How did this game start in Puducherry?,
In the year 2018, BCCI made Puducherry a full member and since then this game started. The BCCI had given a special exemption to Puducherry, under which players who were employed or studying were allowed to register immediately from August 2018, but after opposition from other cricket associations, this exemption was canceled in September 2018. Despite this, outside cricketers played fraudulently in Puducherry and in 2019 BCCI banned 6 players, showing their admission in an institute which did not exist anywhere.
The surprising thing is that not a single local player was seen in the Puducherry team in the five matches of the first round of Ranji Trophy this year. In the 29 Ranji matches held in the last four years, only five players born in Puducherry have been able to play for this team. Meaning, mostly outside players play for Puducherry.
