Srinagar: The Embassy of Iran in India has deleted several posts on X that thanked India and the “kind people of Kashmir” for humanitarian aid, following criticism from Pakistan-based users over references to Kashmir as part of India.
Iran embassy deletes Kashmir posts
The now-removed posts had acknowledged contributions such as cash, gold, silver jewellery and household items sent from Jammu and Kashmir for those affected by the West Asia conflict. One post read, “With hearts full of gratitude, we sincerely thank the kind people of Kashmir for standing with the people of Iran through their humanitarian support and heartfelt solidarity; this kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you, India.”

Another post drew attention to a deeply emotional contribution, describing how a woman from Kashmir donated gold preserved as a memory of her husband, who died 28 years ago, as a gesture of solidarity with the people of Iran.

Following backlash, the embassy removed the posts without clarification. Later content avoided mentioning India, referring only to “Kashmiris”.
Rs 17.91 crore donation scam
Meanwhile, a report by the Jammu and Kashmir Police has uncovered a large-scale donation racket linked to fundraising for Iran. Authorities estimate that around Rs 17.91 crore was collected through unauthorised channels after the Iranian Embassy’s genuine appeal on March 14 was reportedly misused.
Collections were highest in Budgam (Rs 9.5 crore), followed by Baramulla (Rs 4 crore) and Srinagar (Rs 2 crore), with additional funds from Kulgam, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Pulwama. Investigators said emotional and religious messaging was used to mobilise donations, including from economically weaker families.
The report points to a “conduit” network involving individuals allegedly linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and separatist groups.
Central agencies, including the National Investigation Agency and Enforcement Directorate, are now examining the case.
Police have warned against unauthorised fundraising and urged citizens to verify appeals before donating.
