The atmosphere of Sector 11 of Chandigarh turned into silence when the news came that ADGP rank IPS Y Puran Kumar, who lives in house number 116, has committed suicide. 2001 batch official Kumar ended his life by shooting with his government service revolver. He died on the spot as soon as he was shot. At the time of the incident, his wife Amneet P. Kumar, who is an IAS officer, was on a tour of Japan with Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini. This news was stirring not only in the administrative corridors but in the entire state.

Many controversies and conflicts in IPS Y Puran Kumar’s career

Y Puran Kumar’s administrative journey was often surrounded by controversies. Questions on promotion, oppression, government resources and policies – they continued to collide directly with the system.

Case of IPS promotion: 1991, 1996, 1997 and 2005 batch IPS in Haryana last year. Officers got promotion. Puran Kumar wrote a letter to CM Naib Saini, calling it against the rules and alleged that the Finance Department ignored the rules of the Home Department and made this promotion only with its consent. They wanted their own promotion and salary to be revised.

Demand for harassment allegations and action under SC/ST Act

Puran Kumar had complained to Ambala SP to a serious allegation of harassment of former Haryana DGP Manoj Yadav. He also demanded a case for a case under the SC/ST Act. The case was reported on 3 August 2020 when he went to the temple built in Shahzadpur police station. On this, on 17 August 2020, he received a letter from the DGP, asking whether permission was taken before building the temple. Puran Kumar alleged that he was improperly tortured on the issue.

Open objection to government facilities

Puran Kumar continued to raise his voice on the allocation of government resources several times. He once refused to take a government vehicle after getting the old Honda City car, while many other officers had new Innova Crysta cars. In addition, he recommended some officials in the department to implement the “one officer -one housing” policy by some officials in the department.

Taking a dreadful step taken immediately after transfer

Just eight days ago, Y Puran Kumar was transferred to the Police Training College in Sunaria, Rohtak. He took seven days off before joining there and took this step during this holiday period.
