IPL 2027 Auction: Suryakumar Yadav is ‘Not for Sale’, say Mumbai Indians amid Trade Rumours

Mumbai Indians have reportedly ruled out any possibility of trading Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the IPL 2027 season, making it clear that the India batter remains an integral part of their plans despite growing speculation surrounding his future.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, MI sources have firmly dismissed the prospect of releasing or trading the star batter, stating: “SKY is not up for trade, and there have been no discussions, nor will there be.”

The statement comes amid reports that Lucknow Super Giants were interested in bringing Suryakumar on board, potentially as a leadership option after their reported decision to move on from Rishabh Pant.

Suryakumar’s future had become a talking point following a relatively disappointing IPL 2026 campaign. The right-hander scored 270 runs in 13 matches, a significant dip from his outstanding 2025 season, when he accumulated 717 runs in 16 matches.

However, Mumbai appear unwilling to judge him solely on one difficult season. Retained for ₹16.35 crore ahead of IPL 2026, Suryakumar has been one of the franchise’s most influential batters since joining them in 2018. He played a key role in their title-winning campaigns in 2019 and 2020 and has established himself as one of the leading T20 batters in world cricket.

His record with Mumbai provides a strong reason for the franchise’s stance. Suryakumar has scored more than 4,500 IPL runs and remains a proven match-winner capable of changing the course of an innings. His experience as India’s T20I captain also adds to his value, particularly at a time when MI’s leadership plans are attracting attention.

The development also comes amid reports of discussions involving current Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya and Punjab Kings. While a potential Hardik trade has generated considerable speculation, MI’s reported position on Suryakumar suggests they are not prepared to let go of both senior players during the same transfer window. However, the Hardik situation remains separate and no completed deal should be assumed.

With the IPL 2027 retention deadline set for November 17 and the mini-auction scheduled for December 16 in Goa, Mumbai still have decisions to make about their squad. But, as things stand, Suryakumar does not appear to be among the players they are willing to put on the trading table.
