IPL 2026: Why are RCB wearing green jersey against DC at Chinnaswamy Stadium?

New Delhi: Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are donning iconic green jerseys in the IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, April 18.

The Bengaluru-based franchise dons green jerseys as part of their ‘Green Initiative’ every year since 2011. The jersey is made from recycled materials, and it continues to serve as a symbol of RCB’s sustained commitment to sustainability. The franchise also said that it is the only carbon-neutral T20 franchise in the world.

Over the years, the green jersey has become closely associated with RCB’s campaign, but this season the franchise has linked it to a broader system of carbon measurement, accountability and fan participation rather than treating it just as a one-off symbolic gesture.

The franchise has also deployed a series of measures to reduce and offset its carbon emissions, including waste segregation and management at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, use of solar-powered lighting, and other initiatives, including voluntary fan pledges to reduce dependency on conventional resources.

“Achieving carbon-neutral status as a T20 franchise is the result of years of dedicated work. The green jerseys reflect this commitment, and we hope this initiative inspires our fans and stakeholders to embrace more responsible and sustainable practices,” RCB CEO Rajesh Menon said on the franchise’s website.
