IPL 2026: Rinku Singh breaks Andre Russell’s record of most catches for KKR

New Delhi: Rinku Singh scripted history by breaking Andre Russell’s record of most catches taken for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 2.

He first took Ishan Kishan’s catch in Blessing Muzarabani’s over, and then caught Aniket Verma near the boundary rope in Anukul Roy’s over. After taking two catches, Rinku extended his tally to 41 in 61 IPL matches for the Kolkata-based franchise.

The previous record for the most catches for KKR in the IPL was held by Andre Russell. Russell played 133 matches for KKR from 2013 to 2025 and took 40 catches. All-rounder Sunil Narine is third on the list of players with the most catches for KKR in IPL. He has completed 36 catches for KKR in 191 matches.

SRH 226/8 in 20 overs

SRH posted 226/8 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first by KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head showed aggressive intent from the start and forged an 82-run partnership for the first wicket. Kartik Tyagi dismissed Head for 46 runs in the sixth over.

After the powerplay, KKR made a good comeback as Blessing Muzarabani stopped the run scoring by removing Ishan (14) and Abhishek Sharma (48) in the same over. Anukul Roy dismissed Aniket Verma for 1 run in the next over as boundaries dried up in the middle overs.

But after the quick dismissals, Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen forged an 82-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Vaibhav Arora removed Reddy for 39 runs, but Klaasen continued the momentum. He completed his fifty in 34 balls, helping SRH to set a 227-run target. For KKR, Muzarabani took 4 wickets and Arora took 2 wickets.
