Know what the rules say…
SRH vs PBKS: The troubles of Punjab Kings are not showing any sign of decreasing in IPL 2026. On Saturday, something happened against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the new stadium of Chandigarh, which has raised the tension of captain Shreyas Iyer to the seventh sky. During the match, one of Arshdeep Singh’s overs was not going to end and this very over has now increased the troubles of Punjab Kings. Let us know what is the whole matter and will Shreyas Iyer really be out of the next match?
Which over was that of Arshdeep?
Arshdeep Singh came to bowl during the powerplay of today’s match with Sunrisers Hyderabad, but perhaps luck was not on his side. He bowled extra balls one after the other and within no time his over became 10 balls long. He gave away 24 runs in this one over. The result of this long over was that the Punjab team fell behind the schedule (Slow Over Rate). Since Punjab has already crossed the time limit in two matches, the fans are scared whether the captain will be banned now?
Will Shreyas Iyer really be banned?
If you know the old rules, then you would know that for the third offense of slow over rate, the captain was banned for one match. But IPL has changed the rules this time. According to the new rules, now the rule of suspending captains has been abolished. Now ‘Demerit Points’ system has been implemented in IPL. That is, instead of a ban, now a heavy fine and points will be deducted from the record. These demerit points will remain in the player’s record for 3 years.
Not just the captain, the entire team will have to pay the price.
If Punjab is found guilty again, then only Shreyas Iyer will not be punished. According to the IPL Code of Conduct, a heavy fine (which was Rs 24 lakh last time) can be imposed on captain Shreyas Iyer. Each player in the playing eleven (including impact players) may be fined up to Rs 6 lakh or 25% of the match fee. While fielding, one can also be punished for keeping one less fielder on the boundary, due to which there is a fear of losing the match.
Punjab vs Hyderabad match status
After Arshdeep’s expensive over and Hyderabad’s stormy start (105 runs in 6 overs), it seemed that Punjab would be out of the match. Abhishek Sharma had scored 74 runs in just 28 balls, but then Shashank Singh did wonders. He made Punjab’s comeback by sending both dangerous looking Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma to the pavilion in the same over.
