IPL 2026: Punjab pull things back to restrict Gujarat to 162/6; Arshdeep scripts unwanted record

New Delhi: Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled things back to restrict Gujarat Titans (GT) to a score of 162/6 in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Mullanpur on Tuesday. Put into bat first, Gujarat started off well with skipper Shubman Gill scoring quick 39 runs off 27 balls but after his wicket, the Titans found it hard to get back the rhythm.

Sai Sudharsan was the first player to depart on 13 with Gill and Jos Buttler holding the fort for the one-time title winners but after the duo’s departure, nothing really went well for the Titans as Punjab pushed them against the wall with a quality bowling. After Gill’s wicket, hard-hitting batter Glenn Phillips came on to the crease but could just contribute 25 runs off 17 balls.

Gujarat fail to convert powerful start

The experienced Buttler was the fourth wicket to depart after the Englishman managed 38 runs off 33 ball. Looking confident on the crease, Buttler aimed a big shot but was caught on the boundary rope by Xavier Bartlett. Others in the queue like Washington Sundar, Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia also failed to impress in the first innings.

For the Punjab Kings, Vijaykumar Vyshak proved to be the pick of the bowlers with three wickets while Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets giving away 28 runs. Marco Jansen also contributed with a wicket towards the end.

Arshdeep Singh bowled an 11-ball last over which included four wides and a no ball to script an unwanted record for the longest over bowled in IPL.
