New Delhi: Even a record score from record total from Delhi Capitals, propped up by a topmost score from KL Rahul, wasn’t enough to end Punjab Kings’ unbeaten run in IPL 2026 as they pulled the highest chase in the tournament’s history in a six-wicket win to strengthen their grip on the top spot in the standings.
Rahul (152 not out off 67 balls (16×4, 9×6) smashed the highest scorer by an Indian, after Delhi posted 264 for two once they they decided to take first strike, the highest score from a team in the ongoing edition.
But even that record score wasn’t enough once Punjab began their chase, as they reached their target in 18.5 overs, for the bighest run chase in the tournament ever, eclipsing their own mark of mark of 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024 edition.
Rahul made the most of two repreives to blast his sixth IPL hundred and topmost score and put together a 220-run second wicket partnership (96 balls) with Nitish Rana (91 off 44, 11×4, 4×6), the second highest stand for any wicket ever in the tournament.
Priyansh Arya (43 off 17, 2×4, 5×6) and Prabhsimran Singh (76 off 26 balls, 9×4, 5×6) gave Punjab hope with a 126-run stand in only 6.4 overs.
And though they departed in quick succession, Punjab never let the asking rate climb as skipper Shreyas Iyer (71 not out, 36 balls, 3×4, 7×6) took them past the finishing line.
