New Delhi: Mumbai Indians recieved a major boost in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season by the arrival of English all-rounder Will Jacks. According to a report in Cricbuzz, Jacks was seen training with MI teammates at the Wankhede Stadium ahead of the high-octane clash against Chennai Super Kings on Thursday.
Jacks had reportedly sought some time off from the Mumbai Indians management after the T20 World Cup 2026. The Englishman will bolster the squad of the five-time champions, who registered a much-needed win on Monday against the Gujarat Titans to stay afloat in the tournament. The crushing 99-run win in Ahmedabad broke a four-match losing streak of MI and lifted them from the bottom of the table.
Jacks to bolster batting and bowling depth
Jacks will add depth and provide a quality option to MI due to his all-round skills. A big-hitting middle-order batter and a handy spinner, Jacks strengthens both MI’s batting and bowling, adding variety and experience to the MI line-up.
He can also bat as an opener and, in the absence of injured Rohit Sharma, can form a solid partnership with Quinton de Kock.
Can Jacks replicate his T20 World Cup 2026 form?
The 27-year-old cricketer was the top performer for England at the T20 World Cup 2026 and won a record-equalling four Player of the Match awards across the group and league stage against the likes of Nepal, Italy, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand.
Jacks finished with 226 runs and nine wickets in eight matches. He played the role of finisher with aplomb, scoring at a blazing strike rate of 176.56.
His performances in big matches (against Sri Lanka and New Zealand) earned him plaudits and his team crucial wins. Though MI have quality overseas spinners like Mitchell Santner and Allah Ghazanfar, his recent record on sub-continent pitches and versatility in batting make him a sure-shot starter for the Hardik Pandya-led side.
