IPL 2026 has started on a strong note for Lucknow Super Giants. Even though the team lost the first match, the team under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant made a thrilling comeback in the next two matches and won. Especially in the third match of the season, despite being on the verge of defeat, Lucknow snatched the victory from Kolkata Knight Riders on the strength of Mukul Chaudhary. But amidst this victory, the tension of the team also increased because Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, bought in the auction, has been ruled out of the IPL 2026 season.
On Thursday, April 9, in their third match of the season, Lucknow Super Giants defeated Kolkata by 2 wickets on the very last ball in a thrilling match. This is LSG’s second win in three matches this season. But even before reaching the victory, a Lucknow coach Tom Moody revealed this bad news. He told that Wanindu Hasaranga will not be able to play for the team this season and now the franchise will announce the replacement in the next 2-3 days.
Hasaranga was injured in Sri Lanka’s very first match of the T20 World Cup 2026. Since then he was struggling to become fit. Before the start of IPL, like many other injured players, Sri Lanka Cricket did not allow Hasaranga to play. The board had made it clear that first he would have to pass the fitness test and only then he would get the No Objection Certificate (NoC). But even several days after the start of IPL, Hasaranga did not take this fitness test, due to which he was not allowed and now he is out of the tournament.
