New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 4 wickets in a low-scoring thriller at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday, May 20, to remain alive in the race for the playoffs in IPL 2026. KKR rode on crucial knocks from Rovman Powell and Manish Pandey to bag their second win on the trot and jump to the sixth spot on the IPL 2026 points table.
On a tricky surface at the Eden Gardens, which had a lot of help for the bowlers, KKR found themselves in a spot of bother at 54/3 at one stage. However, Pandey’s calculated 45 off 33 balls and Powell’s 40 off 30 deliveries helped them scamper their way to victory. The win keeps KKR’s playoff hopes intact as they displaced the Chennai Super Kings from sixth place on the points table.
Ajinkya Rahane & Co. now have 13 points after as many matches so far this season and need to beat Delhi Capitals in their last league game of the season on May 24 to remain in contention. However, KKR will be out if Rajasthan Royals win their last game against MI on the same day as they will reach 16 points, earning direct qualification.
