Hyderabad’s campaign got off to a frustrating start after a six-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru

, despite posting an imposing total of 201/9. While the batting unit delivered, the bowling attack failed to defend the score, exposing clear weaknesses in execution and match awareness.

Steyn pointed out that the bowlers appeared to lack direction during the chase, noting that there was little evidence of structured planning once the pressure mounted. According to him, putting up a big total is only half the job and teams also need disciplined strategies and adaptability with the ball to close out games.

A major factor behind SRH’s struggles, Steyn believes, is the absence of Cummins, who is still regaining full fitness. Beyond his wicket-taking ability, Cummins’ leadership and composure in high-pressure moments have been crucial for the side, and his absence has left a noticeable gap.

Steyn also questioned some tactical calls, particularly the limited use of all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. He expressed surprise that Reddy was restricted to just two overs in the powerplay and was not brought back into the attack later, hinting at a lack of clarity in decision-making.

RCB’s aggressive start with the bat further highlighted SRH’s inability to control the game early on. The bowlers struggled to apply pressure or break partnerships, allowing the chase to progress smoothly.

While SRH showed promise with the bat, Steyn stressed that their attacking approach will only yield results if backed by a more cohesive and well-planned bowling performance. He suggested that the team management needs to reassess strategies and make better use of available resources moving forward.
