New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has achieved an unwanted record in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, May 18. Gaikwad has struggled with the bat in the ongoing season and has only managed to score just 321 runs in 13 matches at an average of 29.18 and at a strike rate of 120.67.
He again got off to a poor start in CSK’s crucial match against the Sunrisers and struggled to hit boundaries. He only managed to score just 9 runs off 11 balls in the powerplay. Overall, Gaikwad has scored just 182 runs in the first six overs at a strike rate of 124.6, which is the lowest in the powerplay this season.

The CSK captain only managed to score 15 runs off 21 balls and was eventually dismissed by Pat Cummins in the 12th over. The SRH skipper bowled a short delivery, and Gaikwad looked to play a pull shot. But, he got it on the toe end of the bat and hit it straight to Malinga at deep mid-wicket.
Cummins breaks Hardik Pandya’s record
Cummins bowled brilliantly against CSK and picked up three crucial wickets. He broke Hardik Pandya’s record for most wickets as captain in IPL history. Hardik has taken 40 wickets in the IPL as captain, while Cummins now has 42 as skipper. The Australian pacer also completed 200 wickets in the T20s.
