IPL 2025 Retention Deadline: Date, Timing, Live Streaming, Telecast & Rumoured Retained Players List

The d-day is approaching closer with anticipation and excitement among the fans at an high as the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises will announce their retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 Retention deadline.

The retention before a mega auction always brings about some suspense as teams will be allowed only a total of 6 retentions – either via a direct retention for the set price slabs or via the Right to Match card, which returns for the first time since 2018 Mega Auction.

Most teams prefer to retain the core of their squad heading into a new season, but this season, the teams have been left with a tough task after IPL Governing Council announced the player regulations for the 2025-27 cycle.

The retention rule allows teams to retained a maximum of 5 capped players and a maximum of 2 uncapped players. But in total, a franchise is allowed to just retain 6 players via retention or RTM as mentioned earlier.

While the purse has been expanded to Rs 120 Crore, the retention rule will see a franchise head into the auction with just Rs 41 Crore should they make all their retentions as 5 capped retentions will cost Rs 75 Crore and an uncapped retention will cost Rs 4 Crore.

The price slabs are set at Rs 18 Crore, Rs 14 Crore and Rs 11 Crore for three capped players. Then if a team wants to retain two more capped players, then they will have to shell out Rs 18 Crore and Rs 14 Crore respectively from their purse.

Although the price slabs were set at a fixed price, reports suggest the franchise can be flexible with what amount they retain each player within the Rs 75 Crore. For example, a team retain player X for Rs 20 Crore, and retain the rest within the remaining Rs 55 Crore or it could even exceed the amount, resulting in further deduction from the purse.

There are already some wild rumours doing the rounds with several big name players likely heading into the auction, while some usual suspects may continue their journey with their respective franchises.
