IPL 2025: Boult Blitz Floors SRH as Mumbai Indians Canter to 7-Wicket Win

IPL 2025: Trent Boult’s fiery new-ball burst and Rohit Sharma’s vintage strokeplay combined to deliver a commanding win for the Mumbai Indians over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 41 of the Indian Premier League 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on 23rd April.

Mumbai chased down the target of 144 with ease, finishing at 146/3 in just 15.4 overs to climb at 3rd position in the points table.

Boult Breathes Fire in the Powerplay

Put into bat after losing the toss, SRH found themselves in early trouble as Trent Boult unleashed a spell that dismantled the top order with surgical precision. He removed the dangerous Travis Head for a duck in the second over, followed it up with the wicket of Abhishek Sharma, and returned later to claim the scalps of Abhinav Manohar and Pat Cummins. His final figures of 4-0-26-4 rightly earned him the Player of the Match award.

Mumbai’s bowlers never allowed SRH to recover. Deepak Chahar and Mitchell Santner controlled the middle overs effectively, with Chahar picking up two crucial wickets.

Klaasen: The Lone Warrior

While wickets kept tumbling at the other end, Heinrich Klaasen stood tall amidst the ruins. The South African wicketkeeper-batter counterattacked with flair, smashing 71 off just 44 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes. He nearly singlehandedly lifted SRH from 35/5 to a somewhat respectable total of 143/8. Though it came in a losing cause, Klaasen’s innings was the only bright spark in an otherwise dismal SRH effort-making him the game’s unsung hero. He was also ably supported by Abhinav Manohar, who scored 43.

Rohit and Co. Make Light Work of the Chase

Mumbai’s response was clinical. Ryan Rickelton departed early for 11, but Rohit Sharma took control from the outset. Playing with authority and finesse, Rohit belted a 46-ball 70 studded with 8 fours and 3 sixes. Will Jacks chipped in with a breezy 22 before falling to Zeeshan Ansari, but it was Suryakumar Yadav (40* off 19) who applied the finishing touches with his trademark flair, guiding MI to victory.

SRH’s bowlers failed to make any impact, with Eshan Malinga, Zeeshan Ansari, and Jaydev Unadkat managing a wicket apiece but leaking runs heavily. MI crossed the line with 26 balls to spare, underlining their dominance.
