New Delhi: Apple is expected to clock iPhone sales worth over $12.1 billion (₹1,00,000 crore-plus) in India in 2025, according to fresh data from IDC and Canalys. The tech giant has not only retained its leadership in the premium smartphone segment by value, but is now pushing deeper into India with wider offline presence and locally made models.
As reported by Moneycontrol, Apple’s India push is showing clear signs of scale. The iPhone-maker’s share of India’s premium smartphone market stood at 28.5 percent by value in the January–March 2025 quarter, growing 6.2 percent year-on-year. During the same period, the overall market declined 1.5 percent.
Value rise, volume play, and a Made-in-India shift
According to IDC’s Senior Research Manager Upasana Joshi, Apple’s iPhone sales value is expected to hit $12.1 billion this year, up from $10.8 billion in 2024. Canalys estimates this number to be over $11.6 billion, with shipments crossing 13.9 million units, up from 11.8 million units last year.
This steady climb in shipments comes despite a dip in average selling prices. IDC’s data shows iPhone ASP in India dropped from $941 in 2023 to $871 in 2024, a 7.4 percent fall. That, in turn, helped Apple grow shipments by 35 percent year-on-year.
Joshi explained that Apple’s quarterly shipments are hovering around 3 million units, keeping it among the top five smartphone brands in the country. “This consistent growth demonstrates strong double-digit expansion for iPhones in the market,” she said.
Much of this growth has been driven by price drops on older models, easy financing options like no-cost EMIs, and more retail touchpoints across India.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 expected to push momentum further
Sanyam Chaurasia, Principal Analyst at Canalys, told Moneycontrol that Apple used “strategic price corrections and timely channel promotions” around older-generation iPhones to build volumes in early 2025.
Looking ahead, the July–August period will bring the iPhone 16 launch, followed by the iPhone 17 later this year. A big change this time is that the Made-in-India iPhone 17 will be available from day one.
Chaurasia added, “A key shift this year will be the availability of Made-in-India iPhone 17 units from day one, alongside a more aggressive financing push such as 24-month zero-cost EMI schemes being rolled out from the launch period itself.”
This marks a significant shift in strategy. Apple, known for its premium-only positioning, now appears more tuned in to the Indian buyer’s mindset, especially outside metro cities. This includes tailoring offers, pushing volume sales, and making iPhones slightly more affordable.
Macs and iPads also see a big India bump
It’s not just iPhones. Apple’s non-smartphone products are also on track for big gains in India. Moneycontrol earlier reported that Apple’s combined Mac and iPad revenue will likely hit $1.78 billion in 2025, up 38 percent from last year.
IDC data projects MacBook revenue to touch $1.36 billion in 2025, from $932 million in 2024. iPads will grow from $359 million to $414 million, driven by student and enterprise demand, more discounts, and retail expansion.
Canalys numbers echo similar trends, estimating MacBooks at $1.01 billion and iPads at $361 million.
Apple’s performance in India now reflects a mix of premium appeal and deeper localisation. Whether this volume-driven approach helps sustain long-term growth remains to be seen. But for now, all signs point to India playing a much bigger role in Apple’s global playbook.
