Investors’ confidence increased even amid market turmoil, new players coming into the stock market

When the fluctuations in the stock market increase, investors usually start getting nervous. But this time the picture looks different. Despite the weakness in the market, global tension and selling by foreign investors, Indian investors are increasingly moving into it instead of staying away from the stock market.

A large number of new people joined the stock market in the month of January, which is a clear indication that the market decline is no longer considered a fear but an opportunity.

Demat accounts showed confidence figures

Data from depository companies NSDL and CDSL show that more than 36 lakh new demat accounts were opened in January. This is the highest level in the last 16 months. Not only this, this was the second consecutive month when the number of new demat accounts was more than 30 lakh. The special thing is that this increase happened at a time when the stock market was under pressure. There was a decline in both Sensex and Nifty, but despite this the interest of investors did not diminish.

Increasing interest in the market

Indian markets are facing many challenges since the beginning of the year 2025. Geopolitical tensions, continuous selling by foreign investors and global uncertainties kept the market volatile. The effect of this was that the pace of demat accounts throughout the year was definitely slower than in 2024.

But market experts believe that the recent decline has made the shares more attractive than before. For this reason, many new and old investors are looking for buying opportunities after the decline.

Digital investment changed the picture

Another big reason is the ease of investment. Mobile apps, online platforms and digital KYC have made entry into the stock market very easy. Now the participation of small towns and youth is increasing rapidly. Market experts say that technology and digital platforms have strengthened the confidence of investors. Despite volatility, people want to stay connected to the market and are investing with a long-term perspective.
