In Indian households, a jamai isn’t just a son-in-law-he’s often welcomed like royalty, showered with love, and treated with reverence.
Traditionally, a jamai visits his in-laws with respect and patience, quietly fitting into the family fold. “But what happens when this jamai steps into the household to shake things up in his own unique way?”
Enter Neel Paranjape played by Abhishek Malik in Zee TV’s Jamai No. 1-a jamai like you’ve never seen before. Born and raised in the spiritual town of Nashik, Neel comes from a close-knit middle-class family. His father, a pujari at Trimbakeshwar, raised him with strong values, but Neel dreams of creating his own destiny. Armed with charm, jugaad, and an irresistible wit, Neel has a way of handling situations that’s unconventional yet always effective.
Fate leads Neel into the life of Riddhi Chotwani played by Simaran Kaur-a fiercely successful businesswoman who has spent her life shielding herself from pain and trusting no one. As the CEO of her family’s winery, Riddhi is sharp and driven, but her mother, Kanchan played by Papia Sengupta, rules the family with a firm grip. When Neel becomes a ghar jamai in the Chotwani household, he brings his unique flair to every challenge, turning even serious moments into playful battles of wits.
Neel and Kanchan’s interactions are like a spark meeting fire-both equally spirited, their constant back-and-forth is full of humour.
Whether it’s Neel’s mischievous ways of bending the rules or Kanchan’s unwavering determination to assert her authority, their tug-of-war keeps the family on their toes while Riddhi tries to make sense of this new dynamic.
Abhishek Malik said “I’m thrilled to be a part of Jamai No. 1, and I must say that I am drawn to my character, Neel, because he is unpredictable and full of life. He brings a lot of energy to the show, and I’m excited to showcase his journey to the audience. The show is going to be fun, engaging, and full of surprises, and I hope my portrayal of Niel does justice to the show’s title.”
Simaran Kaur said “I am very excited to be a part of Jamai No. 1. The show offers something completely different, and I’m looking forward to playing Riddhi, a woman who is strong, independent, and determined. I’m ready to bring Riddhi’s unique journey to life on screen, it’s a great opportunity to explore a fresh take on relationships and family dynamics, and I can’t wait for the audience to connect with her.”
Papia Sengupta said “I’m really looking forward to portraying Kanchan in Jamai No. 1. She is a complex character with strong beliefs about family and traditions, and I’m excited to bring that energy to the show. It’s a role that allows me to explore different shades of emotion and conflict, and I’m eager to see how the audience reacts to her. This show has a wonderful concept, and I’m confident that Kanchan’s character will add a lot of depth to the story.”
Produced by ‘Studio LSD Productions’, Jamai No. 1 isn’t just about a son-in-law; it’s a delightful saga of breaking traditions, redefining relationships, and bringing people closer with a touch of humour and heart.
