International Cheetah Day: CM Mohan Yadav will release three cheetahs in the open forest in Kuno National Park

Three cheetahs will be released into the open forest on International Cheetah Day in Kuno National Park. Under Project Cheetah, the number of cheetahs in the country has increased to 32. The project has achieved great success with the birth of cubs six times in three years.

Bhopal. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will release three cheetahs from a big enclosure into the open forest at Kuno National Park in Sheopur district on Thursday, December 4, on the occasion of International Cheetah Day. Three years ago, on the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh got a big gift of ‘Cheetah Project’. On his birthday on 17 September 2022, Prime Minister Modi formally launched the project by releasing eight cheetahs brought from Namibia in Kuno Palpur.

Number of leopards increased in Kuno and Gandhi Sagar

The project is continuously showing successful results. At present the number of leopards in Kuno Palpur and Gandhi Sagar sanctuary has increased to 32. This number reflects the success of the project and the rapid adaptability of cheetahs to nature.

Project Cheetah received national honor

‘Project Cheetah’ running in Madhya Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has been honored with the ‘Innovative Initiatives Award’. Cheetahs have adapted very well to the Indian forests, climate and environment. In the last three years, five female cheetahs have given birth to cubs a total of six times. This achievement shows that the cheetahs are not only safe, but are also successfully raising their families here.

Importance of International Cheetah Day

The main objective of celebrating International Cheetah Day is to raise awareness about the challenges such as the declining population of cheetahs, loss of their natural habitat and hunting. Also, its main goal is to encourage collective efforts for cheetah conservation around the world.
