Inter Triumphs Over RB Leipzig With Own Goal In Champions League Match

Inter Milan secured a narrow 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League, thanks to an own goal by Castello Lukeba. This win temporarily places Inter at the top of the standings.

The decisive moment came in the 27th minute when Lukeba inadvertently turned Federico Dimarco’s free kick into his own net. Inter’s defence held firm, limiting Leipzig to a mere 0.25 expected goals (xG) compared to Inter’s 1.08 xG.

With this victory, Inter remain unbeaten and lead the table with 13 points from five matches. They are one point ahead of Barcelona, who defeated Brest 3-0 in a simultaneous fixture. Liverpool, also trailing by one point, are set to face defending champions Real Madrid on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Leipzig continue their struggle, having yet to earn any points after five consecutive losses in the competition.

This season marks a historic achievement for Inter as they have won four consecutive Champions League matches without conceding a goal for the first time ever. Previously, they managed three consecutive clean sheets in both the 1966-67 and 2009-10 seasons. Their current streak is reminiscent of their six-game winning run in April 2010 when they eventually claimed the trophy.

In addition to their winning streak, Inter have maintained clean sheets in all five of their Champions League games so far. This defensive prowess surpasses any other team in this season’s competition. Their ability to shut out opponents has been crucial to their success and current standing at the top of the group.

The Italian side’s impressive form continues as they aim to extend their unbeaten run and secure a strong position heading into the knockout stages. With solid performances both offensively and defensively, Inter look poised for further success in this year’s Champions League campaign.
