Mumbai: The city is expected to face intense hot and humid conditions today and over the upcoming days, with heat wave conditions likely in some pockets, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
During the day, daytime maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 34-36°C, while minimum temperatures will remain high at 27-29°C. Skies will be partly cloudy to mainly clear. Hot and humid weather will dominate, with high humidity making it feel much warmer. Heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Mumbai. There is a low probability of any huge rain, but light thundershowers cannot be completely ruled out in some areas.
Hot and humid smell continues
For the upcoming days (May 16-18), similar hot and humid conditions are forecast to continue. Daytime highs will range between 34-37°C, with warm nights around 27-29°C. Heat wave conditions may persist on May 16 in some areas before easing slightly. The weather will remain mostly dry with plenty of sunshine during the day and partly cloudy skies at times. Isolated light rain or thundershowers remain possible later in the period, but most parts of Mumbai are likely to stay dry.
Advisory issues for residents
The combination of high temperatures and humidity will increase discomfort and the risk of heat stress. Outdoor workers, the elderly, and children should take extra precautions during peak afternoon hours (11 am to 4 pm).
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, wear light and loose cotton clothes and use umbrellas, caps, or sunglasses when going out. Keep indoor spaces ventilated or use fans and coolers.
IMD has indicated hot and humid conditions along with above-normal temperatures in parts of Maharashtra during this period. While occasional pre-monsoon activity may bring some relief later, the immediate days ahead will remain predominantly hot and dry.
