A sensational case that puts humanity to shame has come to light from Kochi city of Kerala, where an attempt was made to kill a disabled youth by making him a pawn of their lust and enmity.
A deaf and mute young man, who was called as part of a conspiracy in a hotel in Kadwantra, was not only held hostage but was also brutally treated to such an extent that even his ribs were broken. The police have arrested four accused, including a woman, in this case, who committed this horrific incident to satisfy mutual enmity.
The incident started when 30-year-old Amal Dev, who worked on an online food delivery platform, was lured by a woman named Safana and called to a hotel room on Sunday evening. The victim Amal Dev, who is unable to speak and hear, had no idea that he was going to be the victim of a well-planned conspiracy. According to the police, as soon as Amal reached the hotel, a gang of five people already present there surrounded him. It is alleged that the accused forced her to strip and recorded objectionable videos of her. When the victim refused to have physical relations with the woman, the anger of the accused reached sky high and they started beating him brutally.
Amal Dev has suffered serious injuries in this violent attack. According to doctors, he has fractures in his ribs and deep wounds on other parts of his body. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, Kochi Police took immediate action and arrested Maradu residents Safana, Anand Murugan, John Rahul and Amal Venugopal. The investigation also made it clear that this was not a case of ‘honey trap’, but a story of personal enmity and jealousy was hidden behind it. Actually, Amal Dev was acquainted with one of Safana’s friends, through whom he came in contact with Safana. When Safana’s boyfriend came to know about their social media conversation, he, fueled by the feeling of revenge, planned this violent act along with his friends.
Police have registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), including wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and attempt to commit culpable homicide. Additionally, relevant sections of the ‘Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act’ have also been invoked to protect the rights of the disabled. Police officials have confirmed that the arrested accused have been involved in several criminal cases in the past also. This inhuman incident that happened with a disabled person has raised serious questions on the security and sensitivity in the city, which makes it clear that the criminals are now ready to stoop to any extent.
