Instagram brings Meta AI editing tools to stories for easier photo and video customisation

New Delhi: Now Instagram users can directly apply the AI-based editing capabilities of Meta in the Stories, and they can access the advanced customisation features at the fingertips of millions of users. The new feature enables the users to type text prompts to add, delete, or edit the elements of their photos and videos without leaving the app. It is a significant improvement compared to the previous AI functionality of Meta, which could only communicate with a chatbot.

Via this rollout, users can now use the new editing features that appear under the Restyle menu, in the Stories interface, through a tap of the paintbrush icon. It is there that they can decide to add, remove or edit certain details of a picture or video through basic text prompts such as changing hair colour, adding items or setting up a different background completely.

Creative AI effects and preset styles

Besides editing with texts, Meta has integrated preset styles, allowing users to test artistic appearances. These are accessories like glasses or biker jackets and filters that add watercolour or movie effects. Video editing features are also dynamic so that the user can add the atmospheric features, such as falling snow or flames, to add extra flair.

Users must remember that the use of Meta AI tools is associated with the fact that they are going to accept the AI Terms of Service of Meta. This allows Meta to analyse, summarise and edit image content, including facial features, to produce new outputs. Meta explains that this information processing is necessary to allow its AI features and be transparent in the processing of media.

Expanding Meta’s AI ecosystem

The update is indicative of Meta in its attempt to keep abreast with its competitors in the AI arena. Most recently, Instagram has been experimenting with a new feature called Write with Meta AI that assists users in creating creative comments on posts. In the meantime, the independent AI app of Meta has been growing well in numbers – similar to 2.7 million daily active users at mid-October, by Similarweb metrics.

In addition, to ease parental anxiety, Meta has also implemented new Family Center tools that allow parents to turn off chats with AI personalities and track teen communications. These actions are aligning Meta with its AI ecosystem as creative and careful, incorporating creativity and user agency.
