‘Inspector Gopal Badne raped me 4 times in 5 months’, female doctor commits suicide

In Satara, a female doctor, fed up with the harassment by a police sub-inspector, committed suicide. In the suicide note, she accused the officer of rape and harassment for 5 months. The accused policeman has been suspended.

Satara: Fed up with the harassment by a police sub-inspector in Satara, Maharashtra, a female doctor committed suicide. On Thursday night he committed suicide in the district hospital. Before committing suicide, he wrote a note on his left palm, in which he seriously accused a police officer of continuously harassing and mentally troubling him. The doctor who committed suicide was a medical officer at Phaltan Sub-District Hospital.

‘Police Inspector Gopal Badne was raping me for 5 months’

The note reads, ‘Police Inspector Gopal Badne is the reason for my death. He raped me four times. He was raping and mentally and physically abusing me for more than five months. Apart from this, the woman has also accused another police officer Prashant Bankar of mental harassment. Gopal Badne has been suspended in this case. Badne was suspended on the instructions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

A few months before she committed suicide, on June 19, the woman had also alleged harassment in a letter sent to the Phaltan Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) office. The letter demanded investigation and action against Badne, Sub-Divisional Police Inspector Patil and Assistant Police Inspector Ladputre of Phaltan Rural Police Station.

Congress made suicide of female doctor an issue

Meanwhile, the suicide of the female doctor has sparked a political controversy. Congress leader Vijay Namdevrao Wadettiwar has targeted the government. He wrote on X, ‘When the protector becomes the eater! The job of the police is to protect, but if they exploit a female doctor then how will justice be served? Why was no action taken despite complaining earlier? He also demanded that mere investigation against the police officers is not enough, they should be dismissed from service.
