INS Vikrant Interesting Facts: Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali with Indian Navy personnel on board India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant off the Goa coast on Monday, October 20. During this, he also celebrated the success of Operation Sindoor conducted by India in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack. On this occasion, let us know the 10 biggest features of INS Vikrant.
1- INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, was inducted into the Navy in 2022 to increase the strength of the Navy.
2- Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, INS Vikrant is also called the “mobile city”. It is named after its predecessor ship, which played a key role in the 1971 war against Pakistan for the liberation of Bangladesh.

3- INS Vikrant, the largest warship to be built in India, is 262.5 meters long, 62 meters wide and 59 meters high. It has 14 decks. It is the country’s second aircraft carrier after INS Vikramaditya built on the Russian platform.
4- According to the Navy, the INS Vikrant warship is as big as 2 football fields and 18 floors high. The aircraft carrier’s hangar is as big as two Olympic-sized pools. The warship is now under the Western Naval Command and is capable of handling naval operations.
5- The weight of INS Vikrant is about 45 thousand tons. It has a powerful turbine, which gives it a power of 1.10 lakh horse power. It is also equipped with BrahMos missiles. Its strike range is 1500 kilometers.
6- INS Vikrant can accommodate 30 aircraft including MiG-29K fighter aircraft and helicopters. It can also accommodate a crew of about 1600 people.
7- This warship took more than 10 years to build and has a 16-bed hospital, 250 fuel tankers and 2400 compartments.
8- During Operation Sindoor, INS Vikrant was deployed near the Karwar coast in the Arabian Sea. It included one aircraft carrier, 4 destroyers and one frigate. These ships were capable of attacking the Karachi-Gwadar ports while being defended by air, land and submarines.
9- The cost of building INS Vikrant was 3.1 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 27,280 crore. This aircraft carrier was commissioned into the Navy on September 2, 2022.
10- The speed of INS Vikrant is 30 knots i.e. 56 kilometers per hour. Apart from 196 officers, it can accommodate a crew of 1449 sailors.
