INDvsWI: Rohit Sharma breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record

Chandigarh: India’s senior player and former captain Rohit Sharma has delivered an impressive batting performance in the ODI series against the West Indies.

After scoring a century in the Guwahati match, Rohit played a stellar 92-run knock in the match held in Chandigarh.

The 39-year-old player became the fourth batter in ODI cricket history to complete 10,000 runs as an opening batsman, reaching this milestone in just 202 innings. Rohit broke the previous record held by legend Sachin Tendulkar, who had achieved the feat in 214 innings.

Rohit needed just two runs to enter this prestigious list and reached the milestone during his 92-run innings against the West Indies. He joins Tendulkar, Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya, and West Indies legend Chris Gayle in the elite club of openers with 10,000 or more ODI runs.

In the list of leading run-scorers as openers in ODI cricket, Tendulkar leads with 15,310 runs, followed by Jayasuriya with 12,740 runs and Gayle with 10,179 runs.

Rohit achieved this new milestone just days after scoring a century in the second ODI against the West Indies. During that same innings, he had also crossed the 12,000-run mark in ODI cricket.

Playing his 202nd innings as an opener, Rohit reached the 10,000 ODI runs milestone to become the fastest batsman to achieve the feat. Sachin Tendulkar previously held this record, having scored 10,000 runs as an opener in 214 innings. Chris Gayle took 268 innings, while Jayasuriya reached the landmark in 303 innings.
