Indigo Crisis Day 7 Updates: Indigo flight crisis continues for the seventh consecutive day. On Monday 8 December, the airline canceled about 500 flights. Of these, Delhi and Bengaluru were most affected, where more than 100 flights were cancelled. At the same time, the Civil Aviation Ministry has said that the crisis-hit IndiGo airline has given a refund of ₹ 827 crore to the customers for the flights canceled between November 21 and December 7. The ministry also said that more than 5.8 lakh customers have been affected so far due to the large-scale cancellation of IndiGo Airlines flights.

It is necessary to end the monopoly of any one company in aviation.

Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that IndiGo’s internal system was responsible for the crisis of large-scale flight cancellations. In response to a question about Indigo having more than 60% market share in the aviation industry, he said that now he wants to bring more companies in aviation. Taking a tough stand on the IndiGo crisis, Naidu said that the action taken against Indigo Airlines after investigation will set an example for other airlines.

Why was there such a big crisis in the aviation industry?

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said this disruption in IndiGo flights was mainly due to reduction in Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) under the new pilot rest rules implemented from November 1, 2025. DGCA has issued a show cause notice to IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers regarding this large-scale irregularity, and has asked him to reply within 24 hours. However, after the airline asked for more time to respond, the aviation regulator gave them an additional 24 hours.

650 flights were canceled on Sunday

Around 650 IndiGo flights were canceled on Sunday, while many others were rescheduled. It is noteworthy that the airline has canceled more than 2,000 flights since last Tuesday.

When can operations be expected to return to normal?

In a statement issued by Indigo Airline, it was said that operations are expected to be normal by December 10. India’s largest airline IndiGo is facing a major operational crisis since December 2, due to which flights are being canceled and rescheduled on a large scale since last Tuesday.
