Indigo said on Saturday that it will start flights from the new international airport of Navi Mumbai from December 25. Under this, 10 cities will be connected to domestic services. IndiGo also said that it is planning to expand its operations from this second airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. More destinations will be added to it with time. Navi Mumbai International Airport is spread over 1,160 hectares and will have one terminal and one runway in its first phase. Its annual passenger capacity will be two crore. The first phase of the airport has been built at a cost of Rs 19,650 crore. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8 this year.

IndiGo said that from December 25, it will connect this airport with ten cities of India including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, North Goa, Jaipur, Nagpur, Cochin and Mangalore. Another airline, Akasa Air, said that it will start operations from NMIA in a phased manner from December 25. Akasa Air will operate its first flight between Delhi and NMIA. After this, services will be started for Goa, Kochi and Ahmedabad in the next few days. The airline has informed that booking of flights has started through Akasa Air website, Android and iOS apps and many major travel agents. The company said that the number of flights will be increased to 300 domestic and 50 international.

Prime Minister Modi had inaugurated the first phase of Navi Mumbai Airport last month. This airport is India’s largest greenfield airport project, developed under Public-Private Partnership (PPP). It has been built as the second international airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, which will work in collaboration with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). It has been designed to meet the growing demand for air travel from India’s financial capital.
