A surge in demand for seven-seater models in India has led the automakers to focus on this particular segment. However, most seven-seater SUVs come with a huge price tag, pushing many budget buyers to look for alternatives. But not anymore, as one of India’s cheapest seven-seater SUVs has just launched with a big update. Here’s everything to know.
Renault Triber Turbo Petrol Launched
The seven-seater in question is the Renault Triber, which has now received the most important update – a new turbo petrol engine. Turbo petrol prices start at Rs 7.84 lakh and go up to Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The turbo variants of this seven-seater cost Rs 94,000 to Rs 1.11 lakh more than the model’s NA petrol variants.
What’s Changed?
The biggest change is the inclusion of the turbo petrol engine. It is the same 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine used in the Renault Kiger and Duster SUVs. However, thanks to a new engine management system, this mill in the Triber puts out a higher 180 Nm of torque, compared to the 160 Nm produced in the other SUVs. As of now, the turbo petrol is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, though a CVT automatic is expected soon.
What Else?
Apart from the new engine, the turbo variant remains identical to the NA petrol variants. So it carries the same design and feature set. As for features, the seven-seater gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless charging pad, automatic AC, cruise control, push-button start/stop, among others.
Safety features on this family MPV include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control, hill-start assist, TPMS, and more. Renault has also re-tuned the ABS, ESC and traction control specifically for the Turbo version. The Triber previously scored four stars in Global NCAP crash tests.
With the inclusion of a turbo petrol engine, Renault has not only addressed the complaints of interested buyers, but also made it more distinctive than its Japanese counterpart, the Nissan Gravite, which is offered with a sole NA petrol powertrain option.
