New Delhi: National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released a report stating that India’s agriculture and allied sectors have recorded 3X growth in their gross value added (GVA) over the past 12 years.
The NSO released the annual publication of ‘Statistical Report on Value of Output from Agriculture and Allied Sectors (2011-12 to 2023-24)’.
The report gives a detailed picture of values of output of Crop, Livestock, Forestry & logging and Fishing & aquaculture sectors of Agriculture & allied activities from 2011-12 to 2023-24 at both current and constant (2011-12) prices.
According to a new report by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Gross Value Added (GVA) for the Indian economy increased over threefold from Rs 8,107 thousand crore in FY 2011–12 to Rs 27,413 thousand crore in FY 2023–24 at current prices.
Agriculture and allied sectors contributed Rs 4,878 thousand crore in FY 2023-24 at current prices, making up 17.8% of total GVA (down from 18.5% in 2011-12), due to faster growth in non-agricultural sectors.
At constant (2011-12) prices, overall agriculture output grew by 54.6% in FY 2023-24.
Crop sector remains the largest contributor to total GVO of agriculture and allied sectors, even though its share declined from 62.4% to 54.1%. Cereals and fruits & vegetables together accounted for 52.5% of total crop GVO in 2023-24.
In the total GVO of oilseeds group, rapeseed and mustard together with groundnut attributed to around 55% in 2023-24. Gram and Arhar together accounted for over 58% of the value of output of ‘pulses’ group during 2023-24. Approximately 51% of the GVO for the ‘condiments & spices’ group was collectively accounted for by chillies, are canut and cumin in 2023-24.
The “Statistical report on value of output from agriculture and allied sectors” presents the time series data on the value of output for agriculture and allied sectors based on data received from Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Tea Board, Coffee Board, Cashew nut & Cocoa Development Board, Directorate of Areca nut & Spices Development, Central Bureau of Narcotics, Rubber Board, Silk Board, Food Corporation of India, Forest Survey of India, all State/UT Directorates of
Economics and Statistics and many more.
