India reported 269 new Covid-19 cases, taking the active tally to 7,400, while nine deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.
Karnataka recorded a single-day spike of 132 active cases, followed by Gujarat (79), Kerala (54) and Madhya Pradesh (20), data from the ministry showed.
Other states like Sikkim (11), Tamil Nadu (12) and Haryana (9) also reported a slight uptick in active Covid cases in the past 24 hours. Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Ladakh, Mizoram, Punjab and West Bengal saw no Covid cases during this period, the Health Ministry said.
In the past 24 hours, four deaths were reported in Maharashtra, followed by three in Kerala and one each in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The total fatalities as of January 1, 2025, stood at 87.
As many as 991 people recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 11,967 so far.
Kerala remains the most affected state due to Covid, with the active tally so far at 2,109, followed by Gujarat (1,437) and Delhi (672). Other states having a high number of active Covid cases include Maharashtra (613), Karnataka (527), Uttar Pradesh (248), Tamil Nadu (232), Rajasthan (180) and Andhra Pradesh (102).
On Friday, in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 7,154. Three deaths were reported, including two in Maharashtra and one in Madhya Pradesh.
CASES RISE IN MANIPUR AND RAJASTHAN
Meanwhile, including three in Imphal East and two in Imphal West, according to the state Directorate of Health Services.
The cases were reported after 15 samples were tested – one from Imphal East, 13 from Imphal West and one from Tamenglong.
In Rajasthan, 30-35 Covid cases were being reported daily in the state, Director, Department of Medical, Health and Family Welfare, Dr Ravi Prakash Sharma, and one death was reported in the past 24 hours.
“We have adequate medicines. So far, one person has died. They had tuberculosis,” he told news agency ANI.
