India’s 2nd Largest Stadium Coming to Bengaluru: 60,000-Seat ₹1,650 Crore Project

Bengaluru is set to witness a major boost in sports infrastructure with the announcement of a ₹1,650 crore world-class sports complex.

The project will include India’s second-largest stadium and aims to put the city on the global sporting map.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar revealed details of the project on Thursday through a post on X (formerly Twitter). He described the plan as a transformative step for Bengaluru’s sports culture and urban growth.

The upcoming complex will be built on a 75-acre site at Surya City in Bommasandra. Designed to accommodate 60,000 spectators, the stadium will be second in size only to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Alongside the stadium, the facility will feature multiple indoor and outdoor arenas, Olympic-standard swimming pools, a modern gymnasium, high-performance training centres and residential options such as hostels and guest houses.

Hotels, a convention hall and other event-ready infrastructure are also part of the design, making it suitable for international tournaments and cultural programmes.

According to Shivakumar, the project will not only nurture local sporting talent but also attract global events to Bengaluru. Its location in Surya City, an emerging growth corridor, supports the city’s long-term expansion and development vision.

Construction of the mega facility is expected to begin soon, with the complex envisioned as a game-changer for athletes, spectators and event organisers alike.
